The Black Trumpet
Listening to the love stories of all the brides and grooms. What can she say? She’s a romantic!
A safari guide in Botswana. Or a vet. Or a baker. Or a comedy writer. Or....well, the list continues.

CO-OWNER, CREATIVE DIRECTOR & LETTERPRESS PRINTER
Whitney grew up in the beautiful summer resort town of Wolfeboro, NH and graduated from Plymouth State University with a BFA degree in graphic design. She played field hockey and skied for PSU and, after graduating, contemplated staying in the area to pursue a coaching career. Luckily she opted to move to the seacoast and begin a design career instead and now resides in Dover with her husband, daughter and two pups.
Chasing her toddler, relaxing on the lake (Winnipesaukee, that is), and hiking in the white mountains.
The variety - on a weekly basis she gets to buy goods for the store, design wedding invitations, sell pretty products to happy customers, dream up window displays, chat with our incredible brides and grooms, letterpress print beautiful pieces by hand on her grandfather's press, laugh with her co-workers…it's honestly her dream job.
Coaching field hockey and ski racing and spending every second with her family.
Byrdy grew up in York, Maine and graduated from Massachusetts College of Art with a BFA in fashion design. She is the former owner of ellO gallery in Portsmouth and in her spare time designs and sews clothing. She currently resides in Kittery Maine.
Sewing clothing and bags, seeing a new art opening/movie/band around town, and weekly Sunday suppers with friends.
Black Birch (Kittery is close enough, right?)
It may sound boring, but ordering products for the store. Flipping through the pages of catalogs, choosing favorites, unpacking all the boxes, finding the perfect place in the store for these beautiful new items, and then hearing customers laugh hysterically while looking for just the right greeting card makes me so happy.
Working in an art gallery or museum.
Creative Retail Mastermind
Demri is from the ever-lovely Pacific Northwest. She graduated from The Evergreen State College with a focus in visual arts and museum studies. She currently lives in beautiful downtown Portsmouth with her beau and their cat, Samson.
Moving everything around and general mess making including but not limited to art projects, in-home upgrades, and sometimes even the momentary organizing spree. Slow morning iced americano drinking. Trying to convince her cat Samson that plastic really, truly is not edible.
Annabelle's Ice Cream
There are a lot of really fab things about being on the Gus & Ruby team - the stellar crew, all of the beautiful things - and lucky for Demri, she gets built-in time to be creative: dreaming up window displays, creating color stories and focusing on visual merchandizing and sometimes even covering things in glitter!

Working on the family apple farm, beach days, and singing and dancing with her little girl.

Working with really fun couples and getting to be a tiny part of their big day - it never gets old!
